Signal and Power Synchronous Transmission-based Bidirectional Communication for Parallel Buck Converters

Reliable communication is vital in achieving a good coordinated operation between distributed intelligent power converter systems. In this paper, a signal and power synchronous transmission (SPST) method is proposed which employs an extra signal modulation switching device for realizing SPST communication for parallel buck converters. By using frequency shift keying (FSK) and phase shift keying (PSK), the SPST communication is implemented by changing the control pulse of the switch to inject voltage ripples with specific frequencies as a signal carrier. This voltage ripple can be sampled on the signal receiving end and demodulated by calculating the frequency spectrum. The feasibility of the proposed bidirectional SPST method between two parallel synchronous buck converters is verified by simulation.
