Multipurpose Reconfigurable Reflectarray Antennas for Dual-Polarization Control

In this paper, a multipurpose reconfigurable reflectarray antenna (MRRA) is presented. The proposed MRRA features low-profile and it independently controls orthogonal polarization of incident waves. The unit cell of MRRA consists of two parts: an antenna and a phase shifter. The antnenna has two slot-coupled feeding networks to excite orthogonally polarized waves and parasitic patches to improve impedance bandwidth. The proposed phase shifter is a reflection-type phase shifter using a single hybrid coupler and two varactors. The measured the relative phase shift range was 0 ~ 360° with a DC bias voltage range of 0 ~ 7 V. The proposed unit cell strucutre for MRRA was fabricated and verified by a customized waveguide structure. An 8×8 array composed of the proposed unit cell structure is also proposed and its performance is studied.
