Abstract
Academic activities are resuming now that the global COVID-19 pandemic has subsided. On 14-17 June 2023 the the International Gastric Cancer Association was held in Yokohama, Japan. More than 1300 experts from 44 countries discussed the hot issues pertaining to stomach cancer. Greater than 800 abstracts were submitted for presentation at the conference. In the past 3 years the pace of scientific research has slowed, but not stopped. The author has noticed that "omics"-based research involving gastric cancer is closely following the leading edge of human genome research worldwide. Specifically, gastric research have focused on the following cancer genome research trends: from a single reference genome to the reference pangenome; from single population to cross-race; from cancer cell-centered to microenvironment combined; and from next-generation sequencing (NGS) with short reads to third-generation sequencing with long reads.
