Design and Implementation of an Ion Source Control System for Heavy Ion Medical Machine

The control system of the newly constructed LAPECR3(Lanzhou All Permanent magnet Electron cyclotron Resonance ion source No. 3) for Heavy Ion Medical Machine (HIMM) is designed and implemented in this paper. It is based on the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS). The hardware adopts PLC, serial device server, servo motors, industrial computer, and other components to realize remote monitoring and controlling of the ion source. The software integrates all controlled devices by building the EPICS IOC run-time databases. The operator interface is developed by using Control System Studio (CSS) to achieve transparent access by operators to all controlled devices. The machine protection system is designed based on the safety interlock rules to realize interlock protection under abnormal device operations. At present, the control system is stable and reliable, which successfully meets the requirements of LAPECR3 tuning and physical experiments.
