A Control Strategy for Electromagnetic Transient in Renewable Energy Systems Based on Virtual Synchronous Generation

With the popularity of clean energy utilization and the in-depth development of microgrids, virtual synchronous power generation technology has received more and more attention. Control strategy techniques based on the simulation of synchronous generators can provide effective frequency and voltage regulations for renewable energy electrical systems. However, the synchronous generator is similar to a voltage source, and simply simulating the synchronous generator's equations will make the converter exhibit uncontrolled characteristics on the short-time scale for electromagnetic transients. Due to the flexible control property of the converter, the current control can be further increased to achieve electromagnetic transient control based on the slow time-scale feature of the virtual synchronous generator. This paper proposes an electromagnetic transient control method for virtual synchronous generation technology. The method can effectively control the short-time scale electromagnetic transients and preserve the slow dynamics and has the advantages of parameter robustness and structural simplicity.
