Research on Linear EBG Structure for E-Plane Coupling Suppression of Microstrip Array

The strong coupling between antenna units not only affects the performance of antenna units, but also has a very adverse impact on the performance of antenna arrays. Research on coupling suppression between antenna units is of great significance and practical value for antenna array design. A novel electromagnetic bandgap structure which is composed of double L-shaped resonant cell is proposed to effectively suppress the coupling between microstrip antenna units on the E-plane without changing the structure of the antenna array. The current distribution of defected ground is introduced to explain the principle of coupling suppression. Detailed analysis of current and performance parameters proves that the resonant structure has a strong ability to suppress the coupling between antenna units and also has a good robustness.
