A Novel Measurement Method of Complex Permittivity Based on a 8.5-GHz $\text{TM}_{010}$ Cavity Resonator

A novel measurement method for the complex per-mittivity of materials is proposed based on a cavity resonator with the use of perturbation method. The cavity resonator is simulated and designed by the well-known HFSS software, and then physically fabricated. Three kinds of low-loss materials are sampled and measured at 8.5 GHz by the physical device. The experimental results show that the relative errors of measured dielectric constant and loss tangent for Teflon materials are within 0.1 % and 11 %, respectively, and they are more accurate compared with the results of other measurement methods. The measured results validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method.
