A Hybrid Metasurface with Continuously Adjustable Characteristics

A hybrid continuously adjustable metasurface, which possesses electromagnetic switching and continuous tuning functions, is proposed in this paper. The design consists of a coding metasurface and an active absorber loaded with PIN diodes and varactors. By adjusting the voltage of active components, the absorbing bandwidth can be dynamically controlled. The principle of phase cancellation is introduced to achieve polarization conversion at the low frequency. The simulated results show that the absorbing bandwidth can be tuned continuously between 3.63 and 12.36 GHz, and the co-polarized reflection magnitude less than −10 dB range from 1.55 to 3.77 GHz. As a result, the broadband RCS property can be obtained.
