Manila Crossing: A Design of a Retro 2D Gamified Learning as a Solution for Educational Virtual Tour in the Pandemic Period

Manila Crossing is all about playing 2D games while also educating players about history using relics that must be collected and historical facts that can be observed. It is an offline mobile game that can be played by users without internet connection. Given the unpredictable events produced by the pandemic, face-to-face classes are unlikely, as are educational field trips. As part of their educational field trip course, the school is interested in the City of Manila’s cultural heritage places. This can assist pupils broaden their knowledge of historical landmarks in surrounding cities. One of the most prominent concerns that stops students from learning about local historical monuments is the pandemic, which prevents pupils from being acquainted with their own cultural heritage. We develop these games because we are confident that they will give primary pupils a different information source in the case of a pandemic. This game will be more enjoyable because it is modeled after the Pokémon games, where relics are required to complete missions or for character challenges to obtain items for various game parts. In addition to helping and promoting Manila and its historical sites to know and encourage them to visit the sites when the pandemic is completely over and it is safe to go outside, we created this to help the students have more ideas and knowledge about various cultures or historical sites in the city of Manila.
