Abstract
Simultaneously with the development of computing systems, computer-aided design applications have also developed, allowing the creation of increasingly more complex models. Parameterized design has developed since the 1990's and involves creating a virtual model of a product (a simple component or an entire assembly) where the geometric parameters are constrained to each other by mathematical relationships. The time to design a new product is determined within the product development stages. In the current context in which companies are forced to quickly change products to face the competition, parameterized design can offer an advantage as an automated calculation process leads to the maximum reduction of design times, especially in the case of some families of parts. Different CAD applications are currently known which allow the representation of spur gear using integrated calculation modules. The disadvantage of these applications is that, in order to simplify the design process, the tooth profile is most often approximated with arcs of a circle. Starting with this aspect, the current paper presents the parameterized design of cylindrical spur gear starting from the mathematical equations of the tooth profile and the calculation relations of the geometric parameters of the spur gears. The calculations were made in a specially designed calculation program, and the resulting data were used in an application CAD in which the 3D model and the execution drawings of the spur gear and gear pair were made.
