Study of linear dynamics of multilayer cylindrical composite springs

This work proposes a numerical method to calculate the linear dynamics of composite springs with a helical shape. This modeling is based on a curvilinear finite element with two nodes and has six degrees of freedom per node and the implicit time scheme of Newmark. In order to illustrate this numerical approach, we have considered a spring consisting of two layers having the same mean line with a geometric parameter defining the rate of the external layer in the composite spring, the results obtained are compared with the homogeneous case where the geometric parameter is zero. The numerical tests carried out have shown the possibility of reducing the weight of the spring by choosing an adequate percentage of the external layer and this while preserving practically the same dynamic response of the homogeneous spring.
