摘要
Metal structures in buildings will usually suffer from a corrosion and the environmental moisture is the main factor affecting the corrosion. This paper proposes a novel corrosion sensor for detecting the corrosion of metallic parts in large building structures. The sensor is a patch tag antenna with a square spiral resonant structure in the radio frequency identification (RFID) system, and it operates at the resonant frequency of 1.95 GHz. The simulation results by the well-known HFSS software show that there is a good linear relationship between the distance of the water medium on the surface of sensor and the $S$ parameter, and this relationship can be used to effectively monitor the environmental moisture surrounding the metallic parts and predict the extent of their corrosion.
