Transforming Relational Databases into OWL Ontology: Methods and Perspectives

摘要
In recent years, the amount of data has become steadily larger than it used to be, resulting in the emergence of so-called big data, which makes it very difficult to handle and query data stored in traditional database systems such as relational databases. This led to the need for ontology to simplify and facilitate compliance with data models and querying them both for humans to make them meaningful and for computers to make the process easier. This paper aims to review and discuss methods for mapping an immigrating relational database to OWL ontologies. The results showed that ontology is still unable to produce the data required by a single ontology mapping. Rather, each case needs different rules that can be combined in the future to make a better ontology model along with the help of artificial intelligence and data mining to collect the required data.
