Abstract
A low-profile broadband omnidirectional metasurface (MTS) antenna is proposed in this study based on characteristic mode analysis (CMA). The desired omnidirectional radiation pattern is obtained by optimizing the antenna structure using CMA. The omnidirectional radiation is excited and a wide bandwidth is obtained by selecting the central coaxial feeding method. The antenna only consists of a single layer and has a simple feeding structure, which contributes to a reduced processing complexity. Simulation results indicate that the proposed antenna achieves a -10 dB bandwidth of 6.66-11.67 GHz, with bandwidth of 54.6% and a low profile of 0.1λ0.
