Improved Channel Model of UAV to UAV Millimeter Wave Link Under Hovering Fluctuations and Doppler Effect

UAV-enabled mmWave communication system has the potential to provide increased bandwidth and transmission speed than traditional wireless communications. However, mmWave signals suffer challenges with propagation. UAV’s versatility in the field of communication may overcome most of mmWave’s shortcomings, sustain its benefits, and open up new prospects. In this paper, an existing channel model of a UAV-based millimeter wave communication system has been improved for a direct UAV-to-UAV link in which the source and destination are moving UAVs by considering the doppler effect. The reliability of the system is then evaluated on the basis of outage probability for both SINR and SNR regimes. It is shown that the interference due to the Doppler effect of moving UAVs has a significant impact on the performance of such networks. Finally, system performance is verified by Monte Carlo simulation and shown that the SINR regime fits more accurately with the simulation results than the SNR regime.
