Abstract
Terahertz (THz) wave rotational absorption spectra of dimethyl ether (DME) are reported. Measurements have been performed at room temperature and pressures of 1 to 8 Torr (1.22 to 10.67 mbar) in the 220 to 330 GHz frequency band using an electronic THz wave spectrometer. Observed rotational transition frequencies and absorption strengths are in good agreement with literature and extends prior work to conditions where considerable pressure broadening occurs. A room temperature collisional self-broadening coefficient of 12.1 GHz bar(-1) for DME is derived. The potential of THz wave absorption measurements for quantitative DME gas sensing in industry and the environment is demonstrated.
