Quantitative measurement of the dispersion of χ(3) in silica and silicon nitride in the 1-25 THz range

Nonlinear optics is a highly developed topic in the near-infrared (near-IR) region. In the THz range, nonlinear effects are well known but have been studied to a much smaller extent than in the near-IR. Here we demonstrate a method for the quantitative measurement of the third-order nonlinearity of materials. The measurements directly reveal the absolute magnitude as well as the dispersion of the nonlinearity across an extended range up to 1-45 THz.
