The GERAADA score and the TEM classification-The SYNTAX score and EuroSCORE for acute type A dissection

Acute type A aortic dissection is a potentially fatal disease. In the clinical routine it is possible to structure the anamnesis, echocardiography and computer tomographic angiography results by using the type, entry site and malperfusion (TEM) classification and the German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A (GERAADA) score. Hereby, the individual clinical condition and disease status of the patient suffering from an acute type A aortic dissection can be assessed. This is the basis for an individual treatment strategy combined with the anticipated risk of 30-day mortality. This manuscript describes the diagnostic concept of acute aortic dissection and explains the use of the GERAADA score and the TEM classification. In addition, a short description of the corresponding therapeutic consequences is provided.
