Environmental Art: a review of the concept and its interdisciplinary importance

This article presents a history of the concept of Environmental Art and Music, highlighting its importance and interdisciplinary potential in the dialogue between the Humanities and Environmental Sciences. The objective is to know which elements are present in both, by pointing out what socio-environmental contributions these areas and practices can bring to the environmental discussion. The methodologies used are the exploratory research and integrative literature review. In the final notes, it is pointed out that Environmental Art is an aesthetic movement whose works awaken reflections on environmental knowledge. Environmental Music is also shown, which brings contributions, such as aiding in population control or recording climate change, through the musical record of physical nature and natural phenomena, biocultural heritage, and the soundscape. And it makes the Environmental Artistic Music category emerge, exemplifying with songs, which portray the history and memory of certain local or regional cultures, as a representation and sociobiocultural record, with close relationships to certain biomes, and collaboration for the preservation of cultural expressions and for environmental education.
