Abstract
•[BBIm][NO3] an energetic ionic liquid was successfully prepared.•A deep spectroscopic characterization of [BBIm][NO3] has been carried out.•The thermal decomposition kinetics of [BBIm][NO3] has been deeply invistigated and reported for the first time in the literature.•The synthesized [BBIm][NO3] displayed good thermal stability and an high reactivity.
