•First depiction of acetone capture by O/N co-doped enteromorpha porous carbon.•Microporous filling is the main physisorption mechanism in acetone capture.•O/N co-doping can improve the surface polarity to enhance acetone capture.•EONC600-0.5 has the best adsorption effect on acetone, up to 461.7 mg/g.
