•The non-crystalline enamel plate was prepared by wet spray and high sintering.•The enamel with ZnO and MnO2/CuO exhibited remarkable antibacterial properties.•The oxygen vacancies in the nanocrystals produced ROS, which destroyed bacteria.•Enamel glaze can create a lasting defense against germs in crowded public areas.
