Patterns of snow avalanche activity during the last century in Chornohora Range (Eastern Carpathians, Ukraine): Tree-ring reconstruction coupled with synoptic conditions analysis

•First historical and tree-ring reconstructed avalanches in Ukraine are presented.•Tree-ring records of avalanches are available since the end of the 19th century.•Air temperature increase and abundant snowfall are responsible for avalanche release.•No change on snow-avalanche regime is expected in the near future in Chornohora Mts.
