Fucoidan-based coating on magnesium alloy improves the hemocompatibility and pro-endothelialization potential for vascular stent application

•MgF2 layer, PDA layer and fucoidan in the coating can significantly enhance the corrosion resistance of ZE21B alloy.•Low fucoidan grafting density promoted the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells.•Fucoidan-based coating inhibited intimal hyperplasia and promote rapid endothelialization in vivo.
