•MgF2 layer, PDA layer and fucoidan in the coating can significantly enhance the corrosion resistance of ZE21B alloy.•Low fucoidan grafting density promoted the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells.•Fucoidan-based coating inhibited intimal hyperplasia and promote rapid endothelialization in vivo.
