Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of zein/bioactive glass composite coatings doped with F and Cu on titanium for biomedical applications

•The incorporation of BG improved the adhesion strength of the zein coatings.•The ion substitution in the BG structure did not affect the coating bioactivity.•BG doping with F and Cu ions enhanced the cytocompatibility of zein-based coatings.•All composite coatings showed improved antibacterial activity.
