Abstract

•A MOF derivate adsorbent of Co-MIL-300 with rich surface groups was fabricated.•It can effectively remove TCH from water by adsorption with qmax = 321.5 mg/g.•The adsorption process is a spontaneous endothermic process.•It keeps a high adsorption capacity in a wide pH range (pH = 2–11).•The covalent-bonding based adsorption mechanism is supported.
