•A general parameter matching method for transcritical CO2 cycle is proposed.•We optimize the existing transcritical CO2 cycles based on the above method.•We discuss the influence of the connection forms of vortex tube on system COP.•Exergy analysis of the improved and existing transcritical CO2 cycles is conducted.
