•Pseudo-3D ERT method was used to characterize the dynamic changes of USPs during the tidal cycle.•Seawater-groundwater exchange mainly occurs in the seepage face and underground channels in the non-seepage face area.•Differences in intertidal groundwater discharge flux were attributed to potential heterogeneity.
