Abstract
It is a challenging task to accurately analyze or even simulate the operation of high frequency converters as the equivalent series resistance (ESRs) of their inductors may vary greatly with harmonic distortions. This paper proposes an iterative procedure to determine the inductor ESR for accurate steady-state analysis of a class E rectifier widely used for inductive power transfer (IPT) applications. The overall ESR of the output inductor is calculated based on theoretical analysis of various waveforms by taking the constant DC and variable equivalent high-order AC resistances into consideration. A 6.78MHz IPT system rated at 5W is built and tested to verify the proposed method. It is found that steady-state waveforms from simulation studies using the overall ESR obtained are in good agreements with the experimental results.
