•Challenge: no criteria for the scaling-out of oscillating feedback micromixer (OFM).•Three scaling-out criteria independent of enlargement were first proposed.•Euler number, RTD, and energy dissipation rate were summarized in these criteria.•A definite design guideline for the selective scaling-out of OFMs was proposed.
