Crystalline polyvinylidene chloride embedded in epoxy composite coating for oxygen gas barrier and anti-corrosion

•Filler-free composite coating was prepared by introducing crystalline phase.•Block copolymer enables the composite coating to keep high adhesion strength.•EP/PVDCM composite coating exhibits excellent long-term anticorrosion.•The oxygen barrier property was enhanced due to the dense crystalline phase.
