Economic valuation of the socio-environmental benefits of urban parks in the city of goiania - brazil

Considering that the allocation of scarce resources to efficient uses is a premise of economics, this work proposed to carry out the economic valuation of the socio-environmental benefits of the urban parks Botafogo, Cascavel and Parque Ambiental Macambira, located in the city of Goiania - GO. A set of valuation methodologies was used, based on the Guide for Valuation of Economic and Social Benefits of Conservation Units of the O Boticario Group Foundation for Nature Protection (2015), contextualized for the urban environment. The estimate of the annual monetary value was approximately R$ 1.6 million for Parque Botafogo, R$ 2.6 millions for Parque Cascavel and R$ 2.3 millions for Parque Ambiental Macambira, demonstrating the monetary and social importance of these areas through opportunity cost. In this way, it is possible to conclude that the monetary value presented by the parks begins sampling the economic importance of preserving and increasing urban green areas, and this is a strong argument to combat vegetation suppression in the name of economic growth.
