Abstract
•Famciclovir (FAM) effectively inhibits carbon steel corrosion in 1 m HCl solution.•The inhibition efficiency reached more than 96% at a concentration of 1.0 mM.•FAM is a mixed type corrosion inhibitor.•FAM is mainly chemically adsorbed on the surface of carbon steel.
