LCC_HVDC: A Modelica-based library for HVDC simulations

This article introduces a library that we created with Modelica language for simulation of high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. Modelica is an open-source language in which the codes are mathematical equations. It is therefore transparent and simplifies reusing elements where necessary. Our library streamlines sharing simulation models among power system operators. We examined our models and benchmarked them against MATLAB/Simulink. The results closely matched and proved the effectiveness of our library. It would consequently be a better alternative for closed-source tools in terms of clarity. It is also the first Modelica library which concentrates on thyristor-based HVDC systems.
