Disposable Non-Toxic Phantom Design for Microwave Breast Cancer Investigation

In this paper, we present four disposable, low cost and non-toxic glandular and tumor phantoms designed for microwave breast cancer investigation at frequency bands of 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz respectively. The composite is characterized experimentally over ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency of 0.2 GHz to 6.0 GHz, and the measured constitutive parameter for the glandular and tumor phantoms are 43.4, 5.8 S/m and 49.6, 6.8 S/m respectively. This result agrees with data reported from excise breast reduction and tumor surgeries in a clinical setting. Therefore, this phantom design methodology can be used to produce personalized phantoms for breast cancer investigation.
