Load Profile-Based Fine-Tuning of Piecewise Droop Control for Enhanced DC Microgrid Performance

Droop control has emerged as a popular autonomous control technique for DC microgrids, but it is impacted by cable impedance mismatches. The presence of these system mismatches causes a degradation in the current sharing performance and system stability. In this paper, a tunning approach based on the load profile is presented to define piecewise droop control for enhancing the performance of DC microgrids. The proposed method involves analyzing the load current distribution and the characteristics of droop control to determine an enhanced piecewise current setpoint. Also, a comparison is made between the proposed approach and both linear and nonlinear droop-based methods. Through analysis and simulations, the results demonstrate that the load profile-based fine-tuning method can substantially improve current sharing within a specific operating region.
