Management of emergency complications in colorectal cancer has changed over the last decades. Controversy and active investigation are challenging old and new practices for distal left colon obstructions. The use of endoluminal self-expanding stents to delay emergency operations and single-stage resections allowed some surgeons to reduce the morbidities of multiple operations and stoma formation. Eventually, the best management must be tailored individually to each patient. In the management of patients with emergency presentations of colorectal cancer, care must be individualized, according to the surgeon’s experience and the resources available at the facility.
