190 GBd PAM-4 Signal Generation using Analog Multiplexer IC with On-Chip Clock Multiplier

Abstract
We present a new 2:1 analog multiplexer IC with an integrated clock multiplier for increased analog bandwidth of digital-to-analog converters. The IC is manufactured in a next generation 130nm SiGe technology, providing >110 GHz of analog bandwidth for the through-path of the IC. We show that the integrated clock multiplier enables very high symbol rates, at the cost of a smaller clock operation window around 90 GHz. We demonstrate electrical PAM-4 signal generation at 190 GBd, the highest symbol rate with more than two signal levels demonstrated with analog multiplexers to date.
