摘要
Supercapacitors are a stunning environmentally friendly innovation in the conversion of energy as well as the storage of energy that has the opportunity to govern the global economy's destiny. Researchers worldwide are interested in developing energy sources that can improve the efficiency of the existing energy sources. Researchers are currently exploring alternative energy-storage systems that can successfully store and provide energy. Supercapacitors, unlike normal batteries, are portable and transparent and have drawn the interest of researchers owing to their intriguing qualities. Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials offer extensive research, resulting in exceptional characteristics, such as high electrical conductivity, large surface area, and remarkable optical capabilities, whereas carbon-based nanomaterials have a very high specific surface area, high electrical conductivity, high chemical and electrochemical stability, and low cost for supercapacitor devices. The most studied 2D nanomaterial, MoS2, exhibits attractive chemical and physical properties that allow its use in various applications. Many studies have been conducted on MoS2 when combined with conducting carbonaceous materials to enhance the electrochemical capacitive properties and long-term cyclic life of MoS2 electrodes. Material-derived carbon materials, including carbon cloth, carbon aerogels, carbon nanotubes (CNT), carbon nanofibers, activated carbon (AC), and MoS2-based carbon composite materials, have been used as effective electrode materials in supercapacitor applications. This review summarizes the charge storage capabilities of MoS2 and its carbon composite materials for the development of supercapacitor applications in recent years.
