Parenteral nutrition use in digestive surgical patients mismatches actual food intake: Analysis from nutritionDay 2016-2021

Background: Previous results from the nutritionDay (nDay) project showed that nearly half of hospitalized patients do not eat their full meal, and that decreased food intake was associated with increased hospital mortality. Aim of this study was to provide the landscape of postoperative nutritional habits in digestive cancer surgery (DCS) and digestive surgical (DS) patients, with focus on the association between food intake and parenteral (PN) or enteral nutrition (EN).
