Transforming bicycle market: Assessing cyclists route preferences on different bike types in a choice experiment

•A stated preference experiment among cyclists in Germany is performed.•We elicit preferences for bike infrastructure for users of e-bikes and cargo bikes.•As fast-growing submarket these types are crucial for a future-proof infrastructure.•Protected bike lanes and cycle streets are the most desired route characteristics.•Compared to regular bikes, users of cargo bikes and e-bikes value proper infrastructure higher.
