Renewable Energy Community with distributed storage optimization to provide energy sharing and additional ancillary services

Renewable energy community represents a new market paradigm adopted to increase the penetration of distributed renewable energy sources and to value the flexibility potentials of customers in presence of behind the meter storage system. Different types of storage systems allow to manage power on different time scale from seconds time basis, f.i. battery, to month, f.i. hydrogen. For this reason, the aggregation of different types of distributed small-scale storage systems may be the solution to maximize the self-consumption of the community and to deliver appropriate ancillary services to the power system. In this context, the paper proposes a day-ahead optimization model for the management of a local energy distributed storage community in order to provide self-consumption benefits and ancillary services to the power system. A detailed analysis with simulation results on a relevant real-life test case are reported and discussed in details.
