Abstract
Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber has great potential in composite materials due to its low density, high strength, high modulus, and corrosion resistance etc. However, the broad application of UHMWPE fibers has been limited due to the weak interface bonding between the fibers and matrix materials, which is primarily caused by their smooth surface and chemical inert characteristics. This study aimed to enhance the interface performance of UHMWPE fibers by co-modifying their surface through plasma treatment, aminosilane modification, and silica (SiO2) nanoparticle modification. Compared to pristine fibers, the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) between the modified fibers and resin increased by over 200%.
