Skin cancer classification using explainable artificial intelligence on pre-extracted image features

•Preprocessed features have been selected to enhance the effectiveness, precision, and comprehensibility of ML models in image classification tasks of skin cancer.•Feature importance is investigated indicting that asymmetry and pigment network are the most important features.•The utilization of explainable AI for the analysis of the results such as SHAP and PDP.
