Abstract
Synthetic chemistry is very useful route to prepare various important molecules that may be drugs, natural products, agrochemicals and flavourings agents. In this way, researchers have been attracted to the development of new synthetic strategies which should be economical and applicable for large-scale production of heterocyclic and biologically active molecules. Since many catalysts have been employed but metal carbonyls have shown excellent results and are in the developing stage. The utilization of metal carbonyl plays a significant role in the fabrication of various organic transformations in synthetic chemistry in the last two decades. Nowadays, both homoleptic and heteroleptic metal carbonyl are found to be useful for many catalytic reactions which includes the amidation, alkenylation, allenylation, annulation, C-H functionalization, carbonylation, reduction, and many coupling reactions. In addition, metal carbonyls have also been employed to synthesize biologically active compounds which plays important role as drugs and chemicals in agricultural and pharmacological fields. The metal carbonyl can replace the direct use of carbon monoxide (CO) which is deleterious for health. The present review depicts the comprehensive overview on the 3d-transition metal carbonyls catalyzed organic trans-formations from 2012-present which would be very useful for the researcher working in the field of metal carbonyls and heterocyclic chemistry.
