•Joints between W and RAFM steel collapse after immersion in liquid Li.•Corrosion damage in W/Cu/RAFM steel affects only Cu-based phases.•Joints W/Ta/RAFM steel with TiZrBe filler demonstrate high corrosion resistance.•The corrosion mechanism is similar to process on RAFM steel immersed in liquid Li.
