•Treatment with 1.0 mM IAA can maintain postharvest mango fruit quality.•Treatment with 1.0 mM IAA improved the antioxidant capacity of postharvest mango fruit.•1.0 mM IAA prolongs mango firmness by affecting cell wall metabolism.•IAA delays cell wall metabolism in mango through differential regulation of Dof1, EIN3, PGs and CX.
