Using graphs and charts in scientific figures.

Charts and graphs, standing alone or integrated into figures, can condense and convey a lot of information in a visual and accessible manner. In this eleventh installment of the TrendsTalk Special series: Scientific figure development, recent authors of TIBS articles share their process for creating charts and graphs. They consider the following questions: what is your goal when including a chart or graph in a figure? What aspects do you consider when generating a chart or graph? How do you decide what to include (level of detail, color, labels, graphics, etc.)? What program(s) do you prefer for generating such charts or graphs and why?
