Abstract
•The multi-swirler array combustor is coupled with the nozzle guide vane(NGV) for the first time.•This study innovatively investigates the characteristics of four layout strategies for the five swirlers and their influence on the downstream NGV. The research highlights that the rotation orientation of the central swirler is a key design parameter.•The PSW layout, despite its poor swirl stability, effectively weakens hot streaks, which is a significant advantage for the design of blades and the lower endwall and this feature can be utilized to assist in design.•The NSW layout features excellent swirl stability and a smaller airflow swirl angle at the inlet. However, this layout strategy is not suitable for thermal load control, as it may lead to excessive hot streaks and inhomogeneity on the NGV surface and outlet.
