Abstract
ASD and schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SCZ) are highly heterogenous diagnostic categories, and individuals in both diagnostic groups share symptoms in social, cognitive, and sensory domains. Despite the prevalence of these disorders, their underlying mechanisms remain unknown, precluding the development of targeted treatments or effective biomarkers. The presence of overlapping features suggests that shared mechanisms may best explain the variation in symptoms. Dysregulation of excitatory-inhibitory (E/I) neural dynamics has been observed in both groups separately, but there is limited research quantifying variability in E/I activity transdiagnostically.
